The largest entry list in South Australian Drag Racing history has been published ahead of the Dragway at The Bend Grand Opening Spring Nationals to be held next weekend on October 21-22.
Over 350 of Australia’s fastest cars and bikes have set the field for what will become South Australia’s most prescribed race meeting in over 50 years of competition. The event will feature the historic first round of the newly formed National Drag Racing Championships 23-24 season, headlined by the Top Fuel Category with 7 cars locked in. The other Group 1 categories joining them are Top Doorslammer, Top Fuel Motorcycle and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
The venue is expecting crowds of up to 15,000 people a day for the Grand Opening with competitors and spectators attending from every state and territory across Australia. The demand has been palpable since going on sale in May with corporate tickets lasting hours and reserved grandstand tickets gone within days.
This will mark the first major event for the Shell V-Power Motorsport Parks Dragway after the Harley Davidson demonstration event and two days of the Street Machine Drag Challenge have importantly begun laying further rubber down on the racing surface.
The Spring Nationals will launch with the Tailem Bend Street Party on Friday night October 20th from 4:30-8 PM with car displays, live music and driver appearances. The free community event situated on the town’s main street is proudly presented by the Coorong District Council & Tailem Bend Auto Car Club.
The action will take place from 9 AM-9 PM on Saturday the 21st and from 9 AM-5 PM on Sunday the 22nd with the formal opening ceremony to take place on Sunday with the ribbon cutting, flyovers, welcome to country and national anthem to take place.
